Does anybody in the UK know why, in the UK, x-rays are more often (usually) done under anaesthetic?

whereas in Canada (perhaps in the US as well) this procedure is quite often done without an anaesthetic, but with the nurses etc. wearing lead aprons and staying with their patients to keep them calm and still. I had a ****** of mine x-rayed out in Canada, when she was pregnant, and I was able to be with her without her being under anaesthetic, but with me wearing a lead apron.
