Chest hurts after surgery?

After having a general anaesthetic for an armpit operation I noticed my chest bone was hurting in the very center right on the bone. It feels like a painful bruise to the touch but there is no marking. What is this? Is it a side affect? My heart is fine as its just the middle of my ribcage that hurts. Help, best answer gets 10 points and what should I do?
