IV Needle, Laparoscopy & Cystoscopy?

I'm due in hospital on wednesday to have both these procedures done, however this is my first time under general anaesthetic and my first operation, obviously I'm scared and I have a big fear of needles! I'm getting an IV in my hand but I've only ever had blood taken from my arm, but sadly I don't have the option to get the IV in my arm! Could anyone offer any advice/support about the IV or the procedures? thanks
