What happens before you have general anaesthetic for operation?

Honey ur surgeon is the best person and legally obligated to explain these details if he has not do not sign the consent form they will give u upon arriving.u will go to a room and be asked to undressl. If ur feeling anxious or afraid the nurse may have an order for u to have a sedative. Ur vital signs will be taken. U will undress with no underwear or jewlrey or contact lenses only a hospital gown, put on a hair cap once undressed u'll get the IV and the machine and tubing will b hung. The iv itself isnt usually painful n will go anywhr they can find a good vein. If ur an easy stick it will b in the top of ur hand or forearm. Make sure to stay well hydrated the days leading up to the surgery it makes ur veins fluffy n easier to stick n less discomforts. They ask u when u last eat or drink make sure to follow the rules on not eating or drinking the day b4 the surgery. The surgeon will brief u. Once ur operating room is ready they will roll ur bed to the room. Inside there they will have u transferred to a table. They will secure ur arms n legs onto the table. A mask will be placed over ur mouth and they may ask u to count to 1-10. Before u get past 2 u'll be out. Once ur out ur eyes will be taped, they will do the head tilt chin lift n a tube will be inserted to keep ur airway patent. The surgeon will perform his procedure. U will be sewn may or not have nasal packing, and be sent to the recovery room to return to consciousness. U may feel nauseated and vomit depending on how anesthesia effects u. U will b given pain medicine. u will b discharged after ur stable whether that is same day or not. I had a nasal septoplasmy a few yrs ago n I am not going to lie. It hurts like a mother flipping *****, my nose bled for 3-4 day. If u get nasal packing it feels like enormously pressure around ur face n eyes. In fact it may black ur eyes and bruise them for a week or so. U wont b able to breathe out of ur nose and its very uncomfortable to sleep. It hurts. Then I had splints in both nostrils for two months so I had major discomfort. I will never have another nose surgery unless its life or death. Good luck. I hope ur recovery is quickly. Remember u will b on pain meds n they do help. Just wanted to b honest about how the pain. I lost my sense of taste for a few weeks n didn't eat anything but some Easter candy cause food felt strange in my mouth without having taste. I cried because everything about the recovery was. Terrible. At a follow up appt with the doctor he suctioned some clots out n I thought my sinus cavity was caving in it hurt so bad.
